About me
She holds a degree in Biology from the University of the Basque Country. She earned her PhD from the Autonomous University of Madrid after completing her doctoral thesis at the Center for Biological Research (CBI) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid, under the supervision of Research Professor Vicente Larraga.
Following her doctorate, she worked in the research group of Dr. Ruth Nussenzweig and Dr. Moriya Tsuji at New York University, pioneering researchers in the search for new vaccines and treatments for malaria. After three and a half years, she returned to Spain to join the Department of Gene Therapy and Hepatology, led by Professor Jesús Prieto, with a Ramón y Cajal grant to direct the Viral Hepatitis Gene Therapy Laboratory at the Center for Applied Mathematics Research (CIMA) of the University of Navarra.
From 2014 to 2019, she directed the gene therapy and gene expression regulation program, and in November 2018, she became Deputy Director of CIMA. Since September 2022, she has been the Director of Innovation and Transfer.
She is currently the coordinator of the advanced therapies and diagnostic innovation area at the Navarra Institute for Health Research (IdisNA). She is the co-founder and scientific director of vivet Therapeutics, a gene therapy company founded in 2016.
She is currently the president-elect of the Spanish Society for Gene and Cell Therapy and a member of the board of the European Society for Gene and Cell Therapy.
She is the principal investigator of the Gene Therapy for Liver Diseases research group within the Gene Therapy and Gene Expression Regulation research program.
